Eleven Going on One

Yesterday was Miss Adah's 11 month birthday, and before we know it, we'll be blinking our eyes and celebrating our one year old. It seems nearly impossible that the same big girl we played with at the park this evening was less than a year ago the teeny, tiny early babe (5 lbs. 14 ounces what?!?) we brought home from the hospital. But it must be true, because yesterday we swapped out her carseat for the next stage up, and last weekend I sorted through the next round of hand me downs (shout out to my amazing cousins!) and tonight when Adah stood up in the bathtub and I asked her to sit down she shook her head "no." So there you go. We are about to have a toddler on our hands.

So I'll spare you my emotional wreckage about how she is growing up too fast and soon she'll just be a teenager who resents me, for a slightly more light-hearted tune. Adah's Top 11 (one for each month of course) - from both ends of the spectrum.

Adah's Top 5 Least Favorite Things
  1. getting her nose wiped (I don't get it - isn't it worse to have snot running down one's face?!?)
  2. staying still to get her diaper changed and then staying still to get dressed (no never nudes here, we have chosen to embrace it)
  3. being "trapped" in her carseat - notice the theme, stillness does not make this girl happy
  4. getting her hands and face wiped after eating (you'd think we were torturing her!)
  5. the new child safety locks on the kitchen cabinets, ruining all of her fun
Adah's Top 6 Most Favorite Things
  1. the egg shaker, which remains at the top of her list - she always has one in her hand, and I'm starting to worry she might get carpal tunnel or something from the constant effort to grip?!?
  2. cats and dogs and ducks and any other animal or animal photo in sight - we have a little animal lover on our hands, and in fact, we aren't 100% positive but it seems that Adah's first words are "kitty cat" and "woof"
  3. steps - going up or down again and again with great glee (ahhh my anxiety!)
  4. dancing her little bouncing Adah dance; freaking adorable - girlfriend has good rhythm, must be all of that work with the egg shaker!
  5. waving "hi" and "bye" to absolutely everyone and everything - with super excitement and vigor even when she hears us say hello or goodbye to someone on the phone!
I wanted to do two lists of 11 each, but I could not come up with enough things that Adah doesn't like. She's generally ridiculously happy. So the list might be small, but Adah is serious about her distaste for each of the items listed. To prove this point, I have a little video of Adah last night when she realized that the kitchen cabinets had child safety locks, preventing her from opening them. (Paul recently put on our kitchen cabinet hardware, allowing Adah to open the cabinets easily - thus the hardware was promptly followed with the safety locks). Please don't judge me for posting a video of my crying baby - but she is seriously adorable when she is angry (especially when she's pulling out her "fake cry" with that big Meyer mouth and all of her genetic inclination towards the dramatic). Also, please forgive the sideways video - Paul always reminds me that I can't take videos like I can photos and I always forget. Duh.

So here's to being 11 months old...and being cute all of the time, even when throwing a little baby tantrum.

When I turned on the video, Elsie started crying, too! Boy, those safety locks are sad! :)

Oh come on mom! Can't you have at least one play cupboard, that I can open, full of fun safe things for me?

I saved your blog awhile back on my favorites I meant to click on something else this morning, but my mouse pointer slipped and I ended uo here. I'm so glad I did. I laughed at Miss Adah's misery (you are right, that was preciously funny), and cried at your band groupie post. You are gorgeous writer. Thank you!
