Chicken (and other Easter adventures...)

What a busy and fun Easter weekend we had! On Saturday, Adah (looking quite adorable in her Etsy dress from Aunt Julie and the gang) took part in the Great Cloth Diaper Change, earning her own little spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Here is a shot of the group at Happy Bambino - over 40 parents and babes ready to change diapers at the same time in honor of Earth Day and for cloth diapering promotion. There were over 400 sites in 22 countries changing at the same time - I have yet to find out the exact number of babes but I heard somewhere in the range of 10,000! It's no secret that we're big cloth advocates, of course thinking environmentally, but also because they are cost effective and great for the health of the babes wearing them. This was such a fun adventure, Adah was asleep after literally one minute in the car driving away. Here she is conked out, and showing off her new big girl carseat (tear!).

 

We were also busy over the weekend getting to know our new friend chicken. My brother lived with a host family in Switzerland a few summers ago, and they have been loving and gracious to our entire family. They sent Adah an Easter package, complete with tons of Swiss chocolate (hmmm, too bad Adah doesn't eat chocolate yet, Paul and I had to help her out there) and this funny little chicken. He walks, plays music and even squawks and wiggles his arms and legs if you pick him up from the neck. Oh my. We have gone from being petrified of the chicken to being fascinated and obsessed but still slightly unsure of this creature. Adah woke up this morning asking for "ti-tin" and tolerated taking a picture next to him, but not looking at him. Hilarious.

 Easter Sunday was beautiful in Madison! Adah and I went to church in the morning, played with egg shakers (of course) and then enjoyed having Paul home and friends over for Easter brunch in the afternoon.

"Orphan" Easter Brunch has become a holiday tradition for us since moving to Madison, hosting friends who also don't have family in town and can't make it home for the holiday (namely because they are also working with Paul at church on Easter!). It was so fun to host in our new home, thinking about how just a year ago now we put an offer in on this place, and how far we have come in that year! And we feel incredibly blessed to have beloved friends who are like family who we can spend the holidays with when we're not in Nebraska. One of our dear friend couples came to the brunch even though they were in (early) labor, and then left early to go and have their baby! Holy cats! They ended up asking if I would come to be there for the birth, which was an amazing and humbling experience, especially considering the only other birth I've been in was Adah's. She was so strong and courageous and I still can't get over the beautiful metaphor of an Easter Sunday birth - what a way to symbolize the hope, joy and new life we have because of Easter. Truly.
