Sticking with the current theme.

Ah, Anne Lamott. Another one of my favorites, and she hits it home in this article:

This one was an especially good read for me. Lately I feel as though my thoughts have been so consumed around this election and the economy and the state of the world that I can’t even summon up the energy to write about it. On top of that, we’ve just finished a super amazing and challenging sermon series on grace and good works at church…a constant reminder of the lack of grace I have for anyone voting for the “other” these days. Ah, holy overwhelm. And why take the time to write about this all when it is constantly swirling around in my head? Who wants to think more about something they can’t seem to escape?

This week I’ve just felt heavy with the influx of information I’m trying to process in my head. And Anne Lamott seems to offer a refreshing angle on it all. As the subtitle reads: “How to handle the fury brought on by this election? Register voters, hit the streets, pray. Stop talking about her. Talk about Obama.” Read the rest for additional wise insight and some smart humor, but that is the basic gist.

I think what Lamott has to say may help me pull myself out of my current debilitating funk. I invest so much energy into thinking about what makes me mad about this election, and why shouldn’t I be investing that time instead to support Obama? More than time, why shouldn’t I channel positive energy towards Obama instead of negative energy towards, well, those people. This is my new commitment.

With one exception – I will watch Sarah Palin SNL skits until I can laugh no longer. Bless Tina Fey, bless her.

Let’s go stir up some Obama love.

Thanks so much for posting this! I linked to the article and your post on my blog (or I will, once it publishes "after work hours" :D). It struck a big note with me today.

Like you though, I need to keep watching Tina Fey. And at my debate-get-together, we will be playing Palin bingo. So I can't entirely tune her out, but I will try much harder to talk more about Obama!
