Road Trip in Review

Epic Road Trip 2008…a summary by state

Minnesota
entertainment: grace (eventually)
high point: seeing a bald eagle soar amidst gorgeous fall foliage
low point: not getting to spend more time there…sweet Minnesota

South Dakota
entertainment: grace (eventually)
high point: Mount Rushmore…Paul’s first time!
low point: camping in the pouring rain

Wyoming
entertainment: life of pi
high point: getting dangerously close to a bison in Yellowstone
low point: a speeding ticket following our failed attempt at a detour and a natural gas accident on I-80 that left us at a standstill for over an hour

Idaho
entertainment: life of pi
high point: the nice AAA woman who left maps and books for us
low point: pricey gas and over-tofued chinese food

Nevada
entertainment: life of pi (although I was getting restless with it by this point…)
high point: camping in the Ruby Mountains
low point: how to pick…horrible rest stops, a lack of water for our water bottles, and most of all a digital billboard that read Obama: He Wants Your Guns (not joking)

California
entertainment: life of pi and the shack
high point: so very many! most of all, sister time! walking San Francisco, hiking across the Golden Gate Bridge and into Sausalito, baking a bundt and rocking Bikram Yoga
low point: parking tickets…stupid city parking

Utah
entertainment: the shack
high point: pizza in Park City
low point: our air mattress…needing to inflate hourly throughout the night

Nebraska
entertainment: peace like a river
high point: seeing loved ones and eating at Lazlo’s (oh blessed honey mustard and fries)
low point: long and flat, enough said

Iowa
entertainment: peace like a river
high point: knowing we were almost home
low point: not being home yet

And now we are back in home sweet home Madison. The Prius is resting and we are unpacking camping gear and doing plenty of smelly laundry. It is good to be home.
