If investment in this election has convinced me more wholly of any one thing, it is this: we must start questioning the paradigms and rhetoric we have (often blindly) believed for so long. This piece by Brian McLaren is a perfect example. Please give it a moment of your time.

Absolutely!
I often find it difficult to explain to those who are anti-abortion (which might as well be everyone in Tennessee it seems) why I am pro-choice. McClaren articulates why I am pro-choice when it comes to the law. Criminalization would cause far more problems (and death) than allowing women the freedom to make their own choice. Plus the "airquotes" around "health of the mother" scare the shit out of me - exactly how far would criminalization go? And would we be denying other forms of birth control as well? I'd rather err on the side of freedom than restrictions.
Besides, once all those (likely poor) babies are born, we know that the "pro-lifers" wouldn't care much about their lives anymore. No healthcare? Who cares. The government only gets you through gestation and then its done.
