Last weekend Paul and I took a mini trip to Minneapolis. Ahhhh...it was like a breath of fresh air.
We went with BR to Uptown and it brought back all the sweet nostalgia of weekend getaways as a college student. To top it off to perfection we made a stop at the Lagoon to see the movie "Juno." Um, new favorite. See it.
Anyhow, the reason for the trip was J's performance with Black Label Movement - "Wreck." The show was stunning and made me proud to be a modern dancer. Many of the performers were my classmates in college, and I felt like a proud mom watching them all come into themselves as performers. I urge you to check out these reviews, and see the show (it runs through next weekend) if you are in the Cities:

Modern dance has this stereotype of being inaccessible for the non-dancer audience or general public, and this show defied those assumptions. The movement was nothing like and yet nothing but virtuosic. The dancers were refreshingly human. It was one of those shows where you remember to breathe at the end, and really, isn't that the only kind?
Thank goodness for modern dance. There really is nothing in the world quite like it.
