World of Dance

Holy hiatus, batman.

I know you probably thought I dropped off the blogosphere. Well, I did. I had a good few months to myself, thinking up wonderful posts in my head (mostly in response to articles from my newest and most favorite magazine subscription - Sojourners) and not putting anything down in writing (usually because I didn't have the energy to deal with the backlash from what I really wanted to say, it's passive aggressive but it's true).

Plus, it's summer in Madison. This is the reason why we crazy Madisonians live in this town - because the fourish months of warmth here really do make up for the rest of year (aka eight months of winter). When one can bike, take in outdoor concerts, run outside, go the the farmer's market, take sweaty sweaty modern dance class and work on an endless list of home projects, why in the world would they take time to blog? Right? Right.

But today I'm motivated. Because I have something great to share. Check out this link for some amazing dance photographs.

Hellooooo, in case you were wondering, this is why I am a dance therapist. Ah the beauty in these photos just brings me to tears! When we get into the hum and drum of everyday life - the to-do lists that I myself am totally enslaved by - we forget that movement is at the essence of our every experience. We dance to celebrate, to remember, to give thanks, to experience, to relate and sometimes just to bring ourselves back into the reality of the moment. Movement is screaming to us "get out of your head and get grounded in the reality of yourself in this very precious moment, dangit!" When we move we go back to our earliest developmental experience and connect to a self that is more pure, that relies on an innate and kinesthetic level that oftentimes becomes clouded in the mess of today. As I repeated to myself again and again throughout grad school, in movement we remember that life is really about process and not about product, about the beingness of humanity.

So go out today and share a dance with someone you love. You won't be sorry you did!

It's nice to hear your cyber-voice again! I understand about avoiding blog topics to avoid backlash... I do that too. I've also started doing that with what articles I "share" on facebook. Sometimes it's just not worth the fight.

But on the happy note... glad to read your thoughts again and I say "go for it"! :D
