An echo in my soul.

Yesterday I felt, for lack of a more original and poignant word, simply inspired.

We had this fall, volunteer kick off deal at church. And let me say, there is nothing greater than a room full of people singing their hearts out. That was just what happened yesterday, and no matter where or when that happens, I get the chills. And, without a doubt, the lyrics from one of my all time favorite hymns come to mind:

My life flows on in endless song;
Above earth’s lamentation
I hear the sweet though far off hymn
That hails a new creation:
Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear the music ringing;
It finds an echo in my soul—
How can I keep from singing?

The version we sang back in concert choir days of old plays in my mind - where the alto part really did echo a "ringing, ringing, ringing" and a "singing, singing, singing." Mmmmmmm.

And I think, thank goodness for hymns. Of all the many things that bring me comfort and a sense of home, they about top the list. Get a hymn stuck in your head today, and let its simple truth echo in your soul. You'll be glad you did.
